I have been thinking for some time of combining printmaking with painting and working on board. Last week I did a test run on paper first to see how it would work out. The paper size is not as big as the final painting will be and so both sides, and some of the most interesting parts, are cropped off. I have a big board, 24 in x 30 in, ready to print the full size work on. Some time back I did a piece called Golden Geisha using the same sort of method, block printing, but I want to take this further by moving onto wood panel instead of paper. This will enable me to do quite large pieces that are not under glass. Please let me know what you think.

Test Run for a New Painting

Beautiful piece Susanne. I love the palette and the way you represented the indentations on the knobs.
I'm not sure I follow your process here though. Are you doing a large painting and then printing it in sections? How are you doing the printing?
Hello Susanne. This is a lovely idea. I like the play between the color and subtle background.
I also would be interested to know more about how the process of your printing ties in. Are you printing by doing a woodcut first?
It is really interesting Susanne! I love the colors you used on the instrument. Lively, vibrant. Please do more, these are lovely.
Thanks for all your comments. I'm sorry I didn't make the process clearer. Each square is a separate small printing relief plate which is inked up and printed with space left between each one and that gives the grid like appearance. It's printed in gold on a dark coloured background. When that dried I painted the instrument in over the top but still left the grid marks between each square to keep the gridded appearance. I hope this makes it clear. I pulled the full sized work onto board yesterday but it will take much longer to dry to the point where I can paint in the cello head because the oil inks are not absorbed like they are on paper. I will post a picture soon on how it looks before I start painting in the cello head.
this is my first stop over to visit your work thanks to your friend Eva's post...I love what I see and lok forward to adding you to blogs I follow.
Happy day to you.
I love that! Wonderful design and palette. (re painting and print, I have to mention Wm. K. Moore, who is combining painting with silkscreen...he calls it Zeitscreen. He's also the single most daring, original, and unapologetic artist I know of, prepare thyself)
Wow, I just came across your blog and I love your art work!
Thanks for sharring.
Michelle
It's wonderful to get comments on my blog and I thank you all. I think the interaction that internet enables is fantastic. We are so lucky to live in such an interesting age.
What lovely color and line. Thanks for checking out my self-portrait. And thanks for posting the letter about health care. I grew up in the states and came to Canada when I was in my early 20's. I do not get the paranoia about health care making people into "socialists".
The health care letter was off topic Paula but I am dismayed at the missinformation and lack of knowlege in America about government health care in other countries and its benefits.
