Update on Copyright Issues-
Downloading Artists Images

This has been a big week for my art images being downloaded.  I don't know if Statcounter has just added this info as a new feature or if I have just been paying more attention.  Anyway this week has shown another two or three people downloading multiple images.  Wouldn't it be nice to know why.

Several years ago I recieved an emal from an art teacher at a school in Australia.  Apparently a competition had been held for the students to design a poster to advertize an upcoming concert at the school .  The winner was announced and the posters printed then someone asked the student about the design and the image of the cello in the center of it.  It then came out that the cello was one of my artworks which the student had lifted from my website and incorporated into the poster design.  The art teacher obviouly realized that it was a breach of copyright and quickly wrote and asked me if they could still proceed with using it under the circumstances. I agreed but asked them to credit my image and also to make a donation to a charity in lieu of some kind of payment to me.  It's a pretty nice poster don't you agree?

Yes, it is a cool poster with your artwork. Very nice of the art teacher to do the ethical thing and give you credit.

I do wonder why people are downloading your images...my curiosity is peaked.

Hi Susanne, I just checked Stat Counter and see that in four days 9 of my paintings have been downloaded - not a great way to start the day!

I had an email from a young gal in the UK saying that she is doing her final school art exams and she has chosen me as her artist connection. She is interested in my painting of violins and wants to know about the inspiration and techniques I used to create it. I would think she is one of the people who has been downloading, but for reference.

With so many people in the world with internet access to your images, it's to be expected. I am amazed that some of them confessed to lifting yours. I still think it's a good idea to register them with
https://myows.com/ so that you have proof of ownership.

It's a beautiful poster design and clearly you're working with a top notch printer to have your colors read so well.

Copyright issues are really up for grabs with the internet...I'm glad that some of your mystery got solved, in a positive way, through the communication with the student.

She's got good taste and she's going to learn a lot ;-]
